Studio Hanzashi is an evolving ceramics practice rooted in improvisation and in-between states. Named after the Japanese term for “half-plugged,” the work embraces unpredictability, treating the wheel as an instrument and each piece as a recorded performance. Guided by a dialogue with clay, the process balances intention with the material’s natural behavior. This is reflected in its signature coastal glaze, where layered finishes react in the kiln to create fluid, one-of-a-kind patterns.
