Jean Prouve

Jean Prouve

(1901-1984) French Architect and Designer

Jean Prouvé was born in Nancy into a creative family and trained in fine arts before apprenticing as a blacksmith. Largely self-taught in architecture, he established workshops throughout the mid-20th century and became known for his innovative prefabricated metal structures and refined wood furniture. Among his notable public commissions was the design of furnishings for the Résidence Jean Zay student housing in Antony, outside Paris. The pieces in the STOCK collection are attributed to his studio for this project, circa 1955.
