Bruno Mathsson

(1907–1988) Swedish architect and furniture designer Bruno Mathsson was born into a family of master woodworkers in Värnamo, Sweden, where he developed pioneering bentwood and hemp-webbed seating rooted in ergonomic study and Scandinavian craftsmanship. Championing modern forms with meticulous attention to comfort and function, his work was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and evolved to include iconic tubular steel designs such as the Jetson Chair. In later years, Mathsson turned his focus toward architecture, becoming known for his self-taught glass house designs.
