Roger Capron
(1922 – 2006) French Ceramic Artist
Capron was born in Vincennes, France and studied at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris in the early 1940’s. His initial practice was in drawing, but a burgeoning interest in ceramics led him to found l’Atelier Callis, with the artists Jean Derval and Robert Picault in Vallauris. Capron’s reputation continued to grow in the middle of the 20th century through his use of ceramics to adorn
furniture. The atelier grew into a factory employing over 100 workers and artisans. Starting in 1980, Capron returned to a quieter artistic practice creating unique ceramic pieces and sculpture. In the STOCK Studio collection his work is a collaboration with furniture designers Audoux Minet, showcasing the use of ceramics within furniture design.
