Henry Kim
HYUNUKO is the art and design studio of Henry Kim, a Los Angeles-based ceramicist whose work bridges the functional and fantastical. Originally trained in literature at the University of Redlands, Kim’s path shifted unexpectedly after an introductory ceramics course ignited a deep passion for clay. Upon graduating, he joined the acclaimed Los Angeles studio of The Haas Brothers, where he served as Head of Ceramics from 2012 to 2020. Under their mentorship, Kim honed intricate material processes and contributed to several landmark projects in the studio’s multidisciplinary body of work.
In 2020, Kim launched HYUNUKO, an independent practice devoted to sculptural furniture, lighting, and vessels. His pieces explore themes of nature, fantasy, escapism, sci-fi, martial arts, and luxury culture -- blurring the line between fine art and design. With an imaginative, world-building ethos, HYUNUKO reflects Kim’s ongoing pursuit of narrative and form through clay.
